About Grad Strategist

Hi, I'm Alex.I created Grad Strategist to give students clear, thoughtful guidance as they navigate graduate school applications and decisions.I earned my B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics at Oregon State University, then shifted into my passion, marine biology, for my Ph.D. at Texas A&M University at Galveston. After graduate school, I joined the Texas Department of State Health Services as a molecular biologist focused on whole-genome sequencing work.Throughout my academic and professional career, I've mentored students at every stage of the process: choosing programs, finding the right research direction, and making early-career decisions. After seeing the same questions and uncertainties come up again and again, I built Grad Strategist with one mission: to help students design and enter academic paths where they will be successful and satisfied. What you'll find here has been shaped by the reflections, advice, and hard-won insight of colleagues, mentors, and managers across my career. My goal is to give you the practical knowledge and informed perspective you need to apply with confidence and make thoughtful, goal-oriented decisions for your future in graduate school and beyond.I look forward to helping you begin your graduate school journey.
